I'm in Goiás, in Brazil’s Midwest region, participating in the launch of an important project that will undoubtedly be highly valuable for our country.

I've spoken to Mr. José Mário Schreiner, President of the Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of Goiás (FAEG) and also President of the Board of Sebrae (Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service) Goiás, about the project known as Goiás Original Seal, which will develop Geographical Indications (GIs) for various terroirs.

I asked him about the significance of this initiative for the state of Goiás, and he stated:

“It’s important to talk over Goiás Original Program, an innovative initiative born and developed not only from the agricultural sector but also from our own experiences, particularly with Small Agribusinesses, Small Dairy Farms, and Small-Scale Farmers, who produce their cheese, for instance.

Therefore, they create a unique identity until we achieve a product with a regional, local Geographical Indication.

Considering this, we've expanded the idea developed within Sebrae, in a way we could bring, not only to the agricultural sector but also to all those areas of Microeconomics, which we know are essential for the development of a state and our country. We know that the vast majority of businesses are based on microenterprises, micro and small individual entrepreneurs, and they play a crucial role in job creation, income generation, and contributing to the Brazilian GDP of each state and our nation.

But if we go over Europe, in countries like Italy, the number of large corporations can be counted on one hand. The vast majority are micro and small businesses that follow a regional, local culture.

The Goiás Original Program was developed under this vision, and today, we're proud to officially launch it with over 30 companies actively participating.

I do not doubt that this is just the beginning.

Here, we can see important areas such as ceramics, crystals, food, products from our culture, and our daily lives, like Cachaça(cane spirits), among many other goods.

This is a truly pivotal milestone, and we are committed to providing all the space and support necessary for small producers to keep growing, thereby contributing to the country’s economic development. Above all, this initiative upholds dignity for families, creates opportunities for entrepreneurs, and fosters prosperity for everyone involved in the process”.

Then, I asked Mr. José Mário whether consumers in São Paulo would be able to taste the flavors of Goiás Sealed Products, and he said to me:

“With no doubt, you can believe you will!

A product bearing the Goiás Original Seal is a product with guaranteed origin, one that, when purchased, benefits and values families, adds value, and ensures quality, which is the most important aspect of all this. And it's assured that anyone taking part in a program like this will help to develop the state and the country. That’s what we want to keep on keeping on for more and more.”

Well done, Mr. José Mário, congratulations on this brilliant initiative.

As we’ve discussed, Brazilian Terroirs are extremely important, and we hope this Goiás state Original idea spreads across the country.

I’d also like to highlight the commendable work of Mr. Tirso Meirelles, President of FAESP(Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of the State of São Paulo / Rural Learning Service), who, alongside Sebrae, is developing a similar initiative in the state of São Paulo.

Wishing all of  you great success!
