“Nothing in life should be feared, only understood. Now is the time to understand more and fear less” (Marie Curie).

We are through an aggressive moment of global polarisation, observing radical opposites vociferating against each other and, in addition, leaders such as Donald Trump, Putin, Xijin Ping, just to mention the three great leaders with their gigantic global impacts, and all of them, boasting powerful atomic weapons, which reminds us of the magnificent scientist Marie Curie, a Polish physicist, and chemist, naturalised French who, in 1903, won the Nobel Prize in Physics and, in 1911, Chemistry Nobel Prize.

Marie Curie was the first woman to become a professor at the University of Paris, due to her brilliant studies and also the discovery of radioactivity.

So, welcome to Agribusiness, where I see a great Brazilian opportunity in this “radioactive scenario” that brought me Marie Curie’s message of wisdom: “It´s time to understand more, and fear less.”

Historically, food, energy, medicines, and vital supplies have always been used in hot and cold wars. In 1980, President Jimmy Carter of the USA imposed a grain embargo on the Soviet Union, a decision that led to a dramatic shift in Russia as the nation began striving for self-sufficiency in grain production.

So, what about now? Brazil, keeping its diplomatic commercial intelligence and alignment with the global sectors of conscious capitalism, takes the opportunity to be the world´s unique region, far from the mega conflicts and geopolitical interests between those eager for supremacy and the contemporary “4th WW perceptions”, actually a Media War for the dominance of human perceptions.

Professor Charles Perrow of Yale University notes that randomness is always a factor and can affect reasoning in specific areas. Daniel Kahneman, Nobel Prize winner in Economics in 2002, stated that Economics is pure luck and unimaginable factors act to change scenarios at all times.

The three Nobel Prize winners in Economics in 2024 (Daron Acemoglu, Simon Johnson and James A. Robinson) stated that the institutions of organised civil society drive the nations prosperity by leading strategic state planning alongside governments. This introduction reflects my interpretation and opinion: I do believe the current situation will lead to the growth of protectionist measures and trade/technology conflicts among major nations with significant GDPs.

However, it appears that recognition will be necessary for life, including food, energy, and the emerging environmental economy in the context of climate change.

Brazil, as the largest world food exporter, is uniquely positioned to double its GDP without deforesting a single tree, which would contribute to food, energy, and environmental security in this competitive global landscape involving “gladiators”.

Commodity prices are expected to increase, pushing heightened concerns about food security in importing countries.

The US Dollar is likely to strengthen, and considering the whole context, despite not being what was expected for a Humanist Ideal on Earth, this situation may present a significant opportunity for Brazil.

Professor Dr.Ray Goldberg, the founder of the Agribusiness concept, at Harvard in the 1950s, told me two years ago, "The food system will bring the world together, uniting a world divided by politicians and their geostrategic interests."

However, I´d like to highlight the words shared with me this year by another Nobel Peace Prize winner, Dr.Rattan Lal who said: "Brazil today leads in food production on poor soils, in the Tropical World, and under challenging environmental conditions. If Brazil embraces this vision, the world will follow."

Therefore, in my interpretation and opinion, the current moment in the world allows us to think about “Understanding it More in order to Fear it Less” through a strong alliance, a coalition of the Brazilian agricultural production chain system, also integrating all cooperatives. Yes, we can hold a meeting including agriculture, industry, commerce, services, and government, all together, alongside commercial diplomacy.

In this way, we can turn the potential crisis into a valuable opportunity, leading to positive outcomes. Logically, prices will also impact the Brazilian domestic market.

That’s why it´s essential to vigorously promote production development while simultaneously increasing exports, to ensure a stable domestic supply. If we don´t consciously take advantage of this moment, instead of using it to our benefit, the opposite may occur.

“We possess all the vital geostrategic advantages to elevate Brazil as a symbol of peace”., corroborating the wise words of our minister, Mr. Roberto Rodrigues, Ambassador of Cooperativism for the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations.) he always repeats.
