I attended the 90th anniversary celebration of the Brazilian Association of Zebu Breeders (ABCZ), which started on Saturday, March 26, 2025.  Zebu genetics, representing 80% of Brazil’s cattle industry, including Gyr, Guzerá, Nelore breeds, and crossbreeds, trace their roots to the pioneering efforts of  Mr. Celso Garcia Cid, who imported the first Zebu cattle from India in the 1940s.

Today, these animals are fully adapted to our tropical conditions, and the city of Uberaba, Minas Gerais, has earned the title of World Capital of Zebu Cattle, even exporting genetics back to India.

ABCZ Vice President, Ms.Ana Claudia Mendes Souza shared her city pride:

" We’re launching Expozebu, celebrating 90 years of a remarkable legacy. This special, historic edition has yet surpassed last year’s numbers, with over 2,800 registered animals across multiple breeds. The event runs from Saturday, April 26th, to May 4th at Fernando Costa Park in Uberaba city, proudly the Zebu cattle Capital.

This milestone highlights the strength of our heritage and our commitment to global Zebu cattle farming. We’ve prepared a diverse program to honor this timeless legacy, featuring over 39 auctions, 9 shopping pavilions, and expectations to exceed last year’s R$190 million in transactions. Additionally, with the livestock cycle turning favorable, already boosting the bull market, ranchers are investing more in high-quality breeding stock in anticipation of rising calf prices in all markets.

Without a doubt, this year will be even better for bull producers, and that positive trend will be evident here at Expozebu and throughout the entire market. A beneficial cycle begins on the farm and ultimately impacts the end consumer.

Today’s modern rancher understands that São Paulo Consumers value quality, traceability, and sustainability. The agribusiness sector serving them doesn’t just deliver food but delivers trust, health, and purpose. And, when consumers support this kind of agriculture, they’re not just buying products; they’re investing in a more connected and sustainable future."

Over 400,000 visitors are expected at Fernando Costa Park to attend livestock judging, dairy competitions, cultural events, and food festivals.

A new addition this year is the “1st ABCZ Walk n’ Run*, a fun race open to all fitness levels.

The event will also feature an exhibit from the Zebu Museum, a UNESCO recognized treasure of Uberaba and Brazil.

For local community, the museum is more than a living record of Zebu cattle farming; it’s a symbol of regional development, pride, and belonging. Over the years, it has become a free-access hub for culture, education, and local history, attracting thousands of visitors, including schools, researchers, families, and international tourists. The museum also reinforces Uberaba’s reputation as the World´s Zebu Capital, gifting urban and rural life by showcasing cattle farming as an expression of Culture, Science, Sustainability, and Passion.

This year’s Expozebu will also host Ms.Ângela Peres, Commercial Promotion Director of Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA), alongside agricultural attachés from Indonesia and Turkey, as part of the Agro Export Caravan, focusing on opportunities for bovine genetic material exports to these markets.

There are high hopes for another successful edition of Brazil’s premier livestock exhibition. Our gratitude goes to Ms. Ana Claudia Mendes Souza, ABCZ Vice President and a prominent leader in cattle farming. Congratulations to Uberaba, the World Capital of Zebu cattle!
