I met with Mr Tirso Meirelles, President of the Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of the State of São Paulo (FAESP). I asked him about the Strategic Actions which had been implemented this year, and he told me:

Currently, one of the most important initiatives we're actively working on in São Paulo's Agribusiness is the CO2 Calculator.
We engage professionals, accredited with the GHG Protocol ( a set of global standards and guidance for the measurement and management of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions) who issue a report for a given property to verify whether it is sequestering or emitting more CO2. Based on this report, we develop a plan to help reduce or absorb CO2 emissions.
This is a very important point, in addition to the Centers of Excellence we are establishing. These centers aim to keep people, both men and women, in rural areas by adding value to their products, enabling them to become gourmet items. This will, without a doubt, provide producers with profitable conditions so they can sustain their livelihoods in the countryside."
At the opportunity, I also asked him about biogas, biomethane, and bioenergy, and he  firmly replied:

"We're set to inaugurate facilities for these issues in March, April, and May 2026, in the city of Ribeirão Preto, State of S.Paulo, right on Avenida da Saudade( Longing Avenue). There, we're bringing the entire concept of the sugarcane production chain and the improvement of labour utilizing all machinery involved.
This also includes Biogas, allowing properties to utilize byproducts to generate Biogas for their own internal use."

I also asked Mr Tirso about adding value and the agro-industrial sector working hand in hand and united with agriculture, and if there are any actions in this regard. He kindly commented:

"Without a doubt, this action is fundamental. When you survey a property, you discover its vocation. Yes, a regional property also has its vocation. By bringing people together and promoting associations or cooperatives, we can establish local Agribusiness production chains. From there, production and productivity increase. We then introduce them to the agro-industry so that the regional property can truly transform a specific product into a value-added good, thereby generating income for that producer and that community.
In other words, it keeps the revenue within the municipality and the region, thus creating jobs and generating income."

I concluded the interview with Mr. Tirso Meirelles by asking him about COP-30 and promptly he told me:

We´ll be there to participate in a major partnership with the National Agriculture Council (CNA), the National Rural Apprenticeship Service (Senar), and the state federations. We´ll have been there from the first week with a large delegation, presenting our ongoing improvements in detail, with a special focus on the Filtration Garden project we are implementing.

The Filtration Garden addresses “dark waters” from rural properties. Water that would otherwise be wastewater is treated to become clear and clean. Properly treated, it can be discharged into rivers without causing pollution or reused for irrigation in planting.

These are magnificent examples of the Recovery and Sustainability initiatives Brazilian Agribusiness possesses," he concluded.

Thank you very much, Mr Tirso, and best of luck at COP-30!

Bioinsumos e agricultura regenerativa a nova linha do futuro.
