The “friendly and fraternal” meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska may not end the war, or, if it does, it might mean a surrender by Ukraine. However, it averts another risk that would be terrible for Brazil: the threat of Trump imposing a 100% tariff on all who keep business with Russia.

We are dependent on imported fertilizers, and Russia is a key supplier. An attack on fertilizers would mean a devastating short-term blow to projections for the next Brazilian harvest. We depend on imports for about 85%of our fertilizers, and Russia alone accounts for around 25% of those imports.

I´ve met Mr. Ricardo Tortorella, Executive Director of ANDA (The National Association for the Diffusion of Fertilizers), who revealed to me last week his great concern over this new threat from Trump's tariff war.

Trump and Putin left the meeting hand in hand as “little friends.” We'll see how long it´ll be!

All of this intricated matter means we must rise above polarization, ideological divisions, and partisan politics. We need to adopt a legitimate state strategic plan for the agribusiness system, where the biggest risks are not inside the farm gates, but rather in a lack of infrastructure, Agrindustrialization, commercial focus, and sales through product and customer diversification.

For our farmers, this also means providing rural insurance, special credit for innovation, and policies for strategic food and energy stockpiling and security.

And congratulations to CECAFÉ (Coffee Exporters Council) for its actions!

I´ve met Mr. Marcos Antônio Matos, CEO of this entity, who told me about an action taking place on October 1st, World Coffee Day, when they will conduct a major campaign in Europe promoting Brazilian coffee.

In the Medium and long term, state plans are urgent, unlike the very short-term focus of retail politics tied to electoral cycles.

So, for Trump: what the USA needs is defined by its laws.

Regarding Putin: he seeks Ukraine’s coal region and its fertile agricultural lands, including the Donbas.

Meanwhile, for Brazil: Minutely focused on Business—more Business, with trustworthy and International Relationship, a true “Agriconscient” (Conscious Agribusiness).
