I interviewed Dr. Rattan Lal, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, regarding Brazilian agribusiness and asked what his three vital messages would be for Brazil’s leaders.
He shared the following:
- Congratulations! Over the last 50 years, Brazil transformed itself into a global leader in food exports, an extraordinary achievement worthy of praise.
- Prioritize Sustainability Moving Forward: The challenges ahead center on producing more with less, fewer environmental resources, less water, and a constant commitment to nature.
- Align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Combat hunger and poverty, drive climate action, and foster peace and justice for all. Furthermore, treat farmers as custodians of planetary health by developing carbon markets and rewarding producers through carbon credits and payments for ecosystem services, delivering authentic, holistic planetary health.
Dr. Lal added: "If Brazil leads, the world will follow."
This means we have no time to waste on internal friction or conflicts that hamper the growth and prosperity of Brazil’s agribusiness complex. From here on, we need a rapid acceleration of progress, paired with an integrated Strategic State Plan uniting public and private initiatives.
A Pathway to a $1 Trillion Sector Brazilian agribusiness could double in size over the next 12 years, surpassing $1 trillion in total output across its value chains and decisively boosting the nation’s overall GDP.
Rather than consider Dr. Rattan Lal’s vision as an illusion or a trick of the mind, I consider it a dream: a strong, fervent, and highly achievable aspiration. Just as the late Brazilian singer Raul Seixas sang: "A dream dreamed together becomes Reality."
Looking back at 1976, we've achieved the unimaginable over these past 50 years. Now, in 2026, we must leave behind outdated ideologies, battles of egos, hatred, and division.
We must recognize that conflict is only constructive when rooted in trustful debate and guided by authentic, trustworthy leadership. Otherwise, we don’t achieve creative, positive conflict but destructive, toxic conflict.
Therefore, division and polarization no longer serve our country, nor do they serve a Strategic Plan for Brazil’s tropical environmental agribusiness as it shapes the voice of the planet's future, as Dr. Rattan Lal emphasized: "If Brazil leads, the world will follow."
Biomass, Biofuels, and Brand Brazil Animal protein, with its extensive links across supply chains, represents a powerful lever for Brazil on the global stage. This includes the vast landscape of biogas and energy derivatives, alongside the immense potential of biofuels through the integration of corn and sugarcane biomasses.
Brazil possesses every necessary condition to orchestrate and lead the voice of Agriconsciousness moving forward. We’re a nation built by people from all corners of the world; we’re all immigrants, blended together alongside indigenous peoples. We form the planet's greatest human genetic melting pot.
Perception studies conducted this year on global views of Brand Brazil highlighted four common attributes: Nature, Warm People, Tourism, and Agribusiness.
These four elements, combined with the imperatives outlined by Dr. Rattan, position us to lead planetary destiny, not only through food production, but also through life preservation on Earth. We possess the technical competence, biodiversity, and scale to do so.
A Unified State Vision We now require a robust public-private partnership anchored by a long-term State Plan so that we move forward as one country, one nation, and one agribusiness, gathering family farming and cooperatives to post-farmgate agro-industry and high-tech on-farm enterprise models.
We have the capacity to deliver and if Brazil leads, the world will follow us.
The time has come to advance as a nation of peace, as our former Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Roberto Rodrigues, often emphasizes.
Forward, Brazil! Let’s do it!
